In the present work two geographic models of biodiversity and landscape respectively are presented. The EU landscape map and the EU biodiversity map are complementary and separate the environmental variables related to human perception from those that make an ecological sense and can be measured using ecological validated models. The methodologies applied are not new but already tested in Spain by the authors. Nevertheless, these models where adapted to cope with such an extensive territory as the European Union, specially related to the lack of information and computational difficulties. The resulting maps are useful to identify sensitive areas and valuable tools to help on the assessment of infrastructure plans in a strategic and pan-European framework. | |
