| In this research, silver fir wood from the Monte de Montinier (Huesca) was analyzed. Physico-mechanical properties (density, volumetric shrinkage, hardness, bending strength, modulus of elasticity, resistances to compression parallel to grain, to tension perpendicular to grain, to impact bending and to cleavage) were measured in small clear, free of defects, specimens. It can be concluded that the silver fir wood from this population presents physico-mechanical properties slightly higher than those referred to Picea abies, one of the most used woods as structural material. For this reason, this wood is considered suitable for use as indoor structural material. This is not a material suitable for outdoor use because of its high anisotropy in the contraction (greater than 2.2), coupled with its low durability and the difficulty of its impregnation. | |
