Protocols and cryptographic algorithms used currently in the information society to protect telematic services are analyzed. This analysis focuses not only on the security of the above mentioned protocols and algorithms in order to detect and correct weaknesses but also on their developments and future applications. The results of this analysis will give rise to: 1- A series of recommendations to improve the security of the present telematic services and extend the number of their applications (generalization to the information society, electronic identity cards, wireless communications, etc.) 2- a series of proposals to open new prospects to the present telematic services. In particular, the topics to be analyzed are: 1- New security protocols (biometric identification), digital signatures (signcription, blind, group, online signatures, signatures without certificates etc.) and cryptographic (secret sharing schemes). 2- Security of digital sensitive documents (bank documents, notary documents, certificates). 3- Mathematical Methods in Cryptography: 3.1- Mathematical methods in Public Key Cryptography (elliptic curves, hiper-elliptic curves, primality, secure knapsacks). 3.2- Mathematical methods in Secret Key Cryptography (simple modelling, linearization, cryptanalytic techniques based on cellular automata) 4- Security evaluation of cryptographic algorithms that are candidates to the stream cipher standard. 5- New cryptographic systems based on recent physical advances: quantum and chaotic cryptography.
