The present work intends to give useful information on how to manage mixed forests in Central Spain, regarding C storage and C stabilization. We conclude that pure Scots pine stands are able to store more C than pure Pyrenean oak ones, allocated both above- and belowground. Nevertheless, the most stable soil C pool is similar independently from forest type, and likely lithological-driven. In general, the C cycle in pine stands has larger fluxes and pools, but this did not imply differences in turnover rates, as shown by the decomposition models and the soil incubations. Finally, an increase in Pyrenean oak distribution would provoke a dramatic increase in N2O emissions after heavy rain events. | |
