| Traditional management of forests was mainly focused on timber production. However, in the last years this paradigm has changed towards multipurpose forestry, including a variety of objectives such as non-timber forest products, soil protection, wildlife habitat or biodiversity conservation. Moreover, in recent years, public awareness upon climate change as well as international treaties such as Kyoto Protocol, has originated a new interest on forest as carbon sinks. | |
