Abstract
During theoperationoftheHiPERfirstengineeringfacility,upto1.2×105 MJ/yr offusionneutronsyields are foreseen.Thisirradiationlevelcouldbedistributedin100MJdetonations,accountingupto100deto- nations inasingleburst,with10Hzrepetitionrate.Aburstwouldtakeplaceeverymonth.Thedoserates are computedanddifferentconcreteshieldsareevaluatedwithinthetargetbay.Duringtheoperationof the facilitytheentranceisforbiddeninsidethebioshield.Betweenbursts,manualmaintenancemightbe performed insidethebioshieldbutoutsidethefinalopticsassembly(FOA)shield.InsidetheFOAshield the residualdoseratesaresohighthatonlyremotemaintenanceisallowed.TheFOAshieldreducesthe delivered doseratetoopticsinafactorof30.3
