BIOD is framed in the field of biological detection taking advantage of the ICT technologies. The expected project outcomes will be integrated biochip KITs for biosensing systems for the mono and multianalysis detection that can be applicable to Point of Care/demands devices.

The core of BIOD is underpinned in the Bio-photonic Sensing Cell (BICELL) concept, micro-nano photonic structures having immobilized bioreceptors on its surface capable of drastically enhance the optical response when biomolecules are attached on the sensing surface, as a new approach for In-Vitro diagnostic methodology. These BICELLs can be used for developing biochips KITs that can be interrogated for advanced optical readout platforms. The advanced optical readout optical techniques will be capable of enhancing the biosensing response of the signal coming from the BICELLs.
In summary, BIOD proposes unique beyond the state of the art bio-detection systems based on a holistic combination among advanced optical readout platforms new photonic architectures integrated in BICELLs and original biofunctionalization strategies.
