The main objective of the master programme in HMDA is to train a new generation of medical engineers who combine a deep knowledge on technical issues related to health technologies with a profound education in innovation and entrepreneurship in the health-tech sector – complemented by a solid understanding of economical as well as societal aspects and effects of the actual challenges of the health-tech sector. The cooperative programme will prepare students to succeed in this emerging field at the intersection of health informatics, data science, and digitation. The Master is a 120 ECTS programme, and you will be able to adapt the programme to your personal needs and interests.

The master programme in HMDA is designed for a period of two academic years at advanced level, leading to a Master of Science degree to be awarded by the respective partner university in accordance with its respective examination regulations. HMDA students are obliged to complete an academic semester at a foreign partner university that counts towards the completion of their master degree according to EIT Health requirements, ensuring international and cross-organisational mobility. The cooperative programme in HDMA includes, amongst others, a mandatory standardized Innovation & Entrepreneurship (I&E) education (30 ECTS) which shall be mandatory for the participating students. Regarding geographical mobility, you will be able to study in two prestigious universities in two different European cities:

  • First year (entry point), you will choose between one of these universities:
    • Universidade de Lisboa (UL),
    • Friedrich Alexander Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU),
    • Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA) and
    • Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM).
  • Second year of HMDA specialisation, where you will be able to choose to study during one semester (including scholarship) in one of the following options in a different university:
    • Analysis of Clinical Data (UPM)
    • Medical Signal Processing (FAU)
    • Clinical analisys for precision medicine (UGA)
    • Bioinformatics and clinical data processing (UL)

You will be awarded with a degree of your entry university and an additional supplement certificate by the EIT Digital, which will mark the specific knowledge results in the fields of innovation and entrepreneurship.
