Optimula (Competition Over)

The ‘Optimula 2010’ competition, promoted by the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, is a competition for undergraduate students from all over Spain.  It consists of the solving of a problem through the use of two techniques: linear programming and the simulation of discrete events.

The groups of contestants will use three tools for the solving of the proposed problem: • AIMMS and Gurobi in order to model and solve linear models and • WITNESS to carry out simulation models.

The problem consists of deciding where to install a series of waste treatment plants together with their capacity.  The objective is to attend to the treatment of a certain waste product at the lowest cost possible for the whole of the logistic network.
