Abstract
We describe a thermodynamically consistent numerical method [1-2] applied to the dynamic solution of a phase-field problem. The proposed method is implicit and preserves the laws of thermodynamics inherent to the problem. We apply the new method to the problem of solidification discussed in [3]. In the talk we will introduce the solidification equations considered and the finite element formulation of the method. Numerical results will be shown to illustrate the performance of the proposed method and its comparison to standard discretizations.
