Multimodal platforms are those which permit human-machine interaction exploiting several human senses. This kind of platforms provides exceptional opportunities in the field of virtual reality, as the user?s perception of the virtual environment simulated is highly improved. The main problems for developing these platforms are associated to the real time constraints imposed by the different modes. In this work, it is presented a new software architecture for a multimodal platform which consists in three different channels: haptic, visual and aural interfaces. Solution proposed is based on a real time Linux operating system and physics engine by Nvidia, called PhysX. Finally, some samples are briefly presented to demonstrate the capabilities that the new architecture brings. | |
