Abstract
The design of radiocommunication systems that include fade mitigation techniques (FMTs) needs the use of indepth information regarding the expected propagation effects. In particular, the most important propagation effects in Kaband satellite systems are the attenuation caused by rain, gases and clouds. In this context, a propagation experiment is being carried out in Madrid with the aim to analyse the propagation of Ka-band signals in the atmosphere. The experimental equipment includes a beacon receiver and a radiometer working in the same frequency band (19.701 GHz). The main goal is the complete study of propagation in the Ka-Band using both measuring instruments, characterizing the attenuation due to rain and scintillation (with beacon receiver measurements) and atmospheric gases and clouds (with radiometer measurements). In this paper, the most remarkable results of the experiment are presented and the simultaneous use of both types of measurements is discussed.
