The requirements to reduce pollution from vehicles are increasing and this is most prominent, if possible, in urban areas. The way followed by automotive industry to answer this demand consists on vehicle electrifi cation. To reach the aim of pure electric vehicles is passing through intermediate stages of increasing levels of electrifi cation, that impulse knowledge, experience and development of batteries, converters and the other electric equipment that are in early stages of maturity than the rest. With this view, this article presents a modeling method that allows estimating energy requirements of heavy duty vehicles, assuming different driving cycles and kind of services, with the aim of pre-sizing the electric equipment needed for every case of electrifi cation and range. Specifi cally urban passenger transport and waste collection cases will be analyzed. The aim is to have a tool that make easier the calculation of weight, volume and cost of the required equipment to cover specifi c operational needs of an electric vehicle, reducing time and cost of tests. These results allow forming a judgment on how far is interesting going with electrifi cation grade on a specifi c vehicle and use. | |
