The majority of specialized translation programmes involve a lot of activities to be carried out within a relatively scarce number of classroom lessons. In order to prepare the trainees for the profession as authorized translators of specialized texts, the competences they have to achieve include linguistic expertise within specialized languages and semi-expertise within specialized domains of for instance economics, technology and law. Besides, they are expected to acquire software skills to perform adequately in their future profession. Therefore, it seems obvious to try to combine these different types of requirements. This paper suggests how to integrate the software processing of a set of machine-readable corpora of specialised genres into translation training. This integration supports the traditional translation strategies with genre-contextualised data. The genre-specific corpora are used to teach the trainees how to identify specific and general stylistic contrastive features between Danish and Spanish, as well as to develop criteria to evaluate the information that can be obtained from parallel texts. | |
