Descripción
The trend for merging telecommunication infrastructures with traditional IT infrastructures is ongoing. The driver behind this development is the strong need for enhanced services from the telecom operators aiming for value added services provision to the customer. Before this merger is completed, a new trend is appearing on the horizon and is gaining momentum. This is the trend of merging the Telco infrastructure, contemplating a dominant Internet, with the concepts of the traditional IT sector. The driver of this new trend is the fact that existing value chains in the Telco infrastructure disappear and the merger between the Telco infrastructure and the IT infrastructure could bring added value to the Telco¿s network, which is needed in order to increase the willingness to pay for the services. This increased willingness to pay will then justify the huge investments that the operators spend on their infrastructure. In the telecommunication sector, the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) is a promising service platform which might become a ¿standard¿ for supporting value added services on top of the next generation network infrastructure. Since its range of applicability is bounded to SIP enabled services, IMS extensions are being proposed, like application ¿SIPification¿. Parallel to this development in the traditional IT sector, the notion of Virtual Organisations (VOs) enabling collaborative business across organisational boundaries is addressed in the framework of the Web Services standards implementing a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA). Here, concepts for controlled resource and service sharing based on Web Services and Semantic Technologies are deployed. Within the EU funded Akogrimo project, the VO concept has been extended towards Mobile Dynamic Virtual Organisation (MDVO) considering additionally the requirements of mobile users and resources. The scenarios for MDVO show a clear need for integration with Multimedia Applications, in particular conversational services. In this paper, the resulting equirements on the signalling protocol merging SIP and SOAP based applications into a coherent platform are discussed.
