The implementation of boundary conditions is one of the points where Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics SPH methodology still has room to improve. In the SPH framework, different methodologies have been used to impose these boundary conditions. Namely, by using boundary forces-type models [1], [2]; by modifying the kernel structure in the boundaries neighborhood [3]; by creating virtual particles inside the solid boundary domain through mirroring techniques [4] and by adding normalized boundary integrals [5]. The latter being the main focus of the present work. In this paper a consistent implementation of classical boundary conditions in the presence of typical discretized and smoothed differential operators is analyzed. The calculation of gradients, divergences and Laplacians are important steps that must be consistently performed in explicit SPH formulations such as weakly compressible SPH (WCSPH) | |
