A photogrammetrically validated 3D F.E. model which predicts the rupture of beams due to the effect of knots, and therefore shows a multiaxial stress state, was used to discuss the conservatism and characteristics of the main phenomenological fracture criteria currently used in wood, not only applying them at discrete points, but also at different finite stress integration volumes. Hence this research aims to provide a general vision about the different criteria and approaches to predict the failure initiation in structural pieces of timber, which do not contain initial notches or cracks. | |
