Descripción
TIMPANO - UPM: Significant advances have been achieved in speech technologies allowing researchers to face new challenges in different areas of human-machine interaction slightly exploited so far, improving and consolidating already developed technologies at the same time. The new generation of speech interaction systems requires a progressive increase of robustness against the variability of users, languages and acoustic conditions, as well as against the huge volume of information those systems provide access to. The international scientific community is devoting strong efforts to provide solutions allowing to face unconstrained vocabularies, different tasks, several languages and open domain information retrieval systems for which an exhaustive signal analysis helps to extract as much information as possible. On this basis, it is necessary to take into account the following issues that represent the goals of this project: to consider learning not only at the initial design stages but also as a main feature of the system that should keep improving to broaden its coverage during usage; to exploit the information regarding the quality/reliability of the performance of the different system components; to obtain an overview of all the information conveyed by the input signal (speech, music, language, speaker, segmentation, semantics, emotions, ?) that can be used to solve complex tasks; to design interaction systems to be applied to unrestricted broad domains; and finally to propose the possibility of taking advantage of the achieved developments, not only for those cases where the aim is to design a fully automated system, but also to obtain user assistance tools. The research groups proposing this project have wide experience on speech technologies. Although all of them have a global knowledge of the different components of speech communication processes, there is a diversified specialization among them. This fact makes the collaboration a need for developing a project like this one. As a result of this collaboration, previous relevant projects have been commonly developed, among which we can highlight the SD-TEAM project (TIN2008-06856-C05) which represents the technological starting point of this new project proposal.
