For decades an impressive number of partial or total IS failures continue to cause big los ses to organi zations, possing serious challenges to IT professionals and management in general. Literature acknowledges main inherent factors are more social in nature than technological, assigning a relevant weight to the end user role and indicating a need for further research, for considering the end-user as the most important ?stakeholder? for IS success. This empirical study has sought to expand on the sub-dimensions and analyze the impact of three critical factors of that role from the perspective of the same end user, not found in the literature on the su bject. Results fro m complementing quantitative and qualitative analyses are presented, assigning the biggest loadings to the factors "knowledge" and effective "participation". The most significant conclusions highlight the relevance of knowledge management as well as preventive measures regarding the analyzed sub-dimensions to reduce the inherent risks. It is estimated that the results provide more detail to the theory and practice of IS in organizations. Keywords: Information systems, End user, Key success factors, Knowledge, Management challenges.
