Tree species composition influences the carbon cycle due to differential growth rates, quantity and quality of litterfall (both above- and belowground) and creation of different meteorological environments, among other factors. Therefore, soil C cycle is expected to vary depending on tree species composition, as well as soil C sequestration potential. Here, we present a synthesis work of tree species composition effects on soil C storage and C effluxes, focused on three ecotones between Scots pine and Pyrenean oak in Central Spain. | |
