Several aspects must be considered when integrating concentrating optics and high efficiency solar cells to obtain a high performing system. Among them, the effect of nonuniform irradiance distribution on multijunction solar cells is carefully examined in this paper. Fresnel lens-based systems are analyzed by using ray-tracing to predict the distribution of photogenerated current across every subcell. Then, IV curves of the system are measured indoors for different primary-to-receiver distances, irradiance levels and spectral contents. Comparing ray-tracing simulations and experimental measurements the effects of nonuniformity can be quantified. | |
