Abstract
In this paper, a novel method for producing dynamometric wheels that measure the forces and moments acting at the tyre/road contact patch is presented. Those forces and moments are obtained from the strain signals measured at different points of the original wheel of the vehicle with strain gauges. These signals do not only depend on the forces and moments that are to be determined, but also on other factors such as the angle of rotation of the wheel, the temperature, the centrifugal forces... In order to obtain the forces and moments acting at the contact patch, the signals coming from the strain gauges are linearly combined in such a way that at least another six signals are obtained, that are independent on the rotation of the wheel, the temperature and the centrifugal forces. From these new signals, the forces and moments are computed by solving two systems of linear equations with three unknowns each.
