This paper explores the design and implementation of a code of conduct at a sectorial level in the booming Ethiopian floriculture industry, as well as the circumstances that led to it. The cut flower industry has being growing in the East African region for the last decade fostered by foreign investment, however it is quite a controversial activity with many associated social and environmental risks. EHPEA, the Ethiopian Horticulture Producers Exporters Association, developed a code of conduct adapted to the specific requirements of its country and the floriculture sector partnering with public and private organizations both from Ethiopia and The Netherlands. | |
