In this project we develop rib planar waveguides based on polyfluorene with widths comprised between 40 and 400 um and 800 nm height. Waveguides are characterized in terms of their operation as optical amplifiers. Energy thresholds for ASE and losses are compared for different structures and rationalized in terms of their geometry. As a figure of merit we observe a progressive reduction in ASE threshold on narrower ribs which leads to more stable and longer operation lifetime. This property is crucial for the application of waveguide structures as chemical sensors. | |
