In recent years, Internet has promoted that continuous access to information has become a need for biomedical professionals and researchers. In many locations, these needs are quickly covered with a simple Internet access from any electronic device at the researchers? fingertips. However, in some African locations this need becomes a challenge because: (i) the Internet connection is poor and expensive, (ii) people have few computer skills, (iii) there is a lack of tools developed by Africans addressing their own real needs, or (iv) technological resources are scarce or are broken and there is no technical staff to repair the electronical devices. In this context, information technologies, such as collaborative tools or virtual learning tools, can facilitate access to some external knowledge and resources. However, it is necessary to adapt these resources to the needs of African professionals by creating new tools to access information from slow connections, and encouraging the training of new African biomedical researchers that can create new tools geared to their own needs. | |
