In the last years, ontologies have proven to be a very useful way to model concepts in terminological works, even surpassing some other well-known concept modeling frameworks, such as the ones based on UML (cf. ISO/DIS 24156-1). Indeed, ontologies (Gruber, 1993; Borst, 1997) can be easily applied to link and merge different terminological and/or language resources. Towards this end, an ontological concept-model is built and placed on top of these resources, serving as a common umbrella that allows linking their terms appropriately. This paper presents some problems found when linking together a number of terminological resources (e.g. about Pragmatics) by means of ontologies. We also present the methodology followed to build these linking ontologies, and a number of recommendations that derived from their development. They helped us evaluate, reuse, link and merge these terminological resources and make them interoperate. Moreover, they have helped us identify their terminological gaps and fill them in conveniently. | |
