Abstract
The design and commercialization of the first combine harvester, which took place for the first time by 1940, has been considered one of the 10 developments in agricultural engineering that have changed the world, moving from a demand of 1500 h of human labor per ha towards 5-10h/ha for the whole cereal production cycle. Combine harvester allow to cut, thresh, separate and clean all at the same time with grain losses below 4%, even though cereal crops are an example of complex physical properties depending on the focus: spikes, long straw, short straw, broken spike heads and grains, all of which have they specific properties. A field test has taken place, focused on analysis of straw jam in the cutting head as affected by changes in field productivity and weed infestation
