In this paper we attempt to characterize the internal porous structure of different soil aggregates. This porosity is classified into tunnels (accessible porosity) and cavities (inaccessible porosity). Two groups of soil aggregates have been studied, the first group comes from a soil treated with conventional tillage and the second group comes from a native soil in succession (see Wang et al., 2011). We have analyzed 3D CTimages from a total of eight aggregates in each group. For the study of 3D digital images of soil aggregates, we have used techniques based on the theories of Mathematical Morphology and Integral Geometry (Serra, 1982).The Morphological Closing Operation was performed to isolate the tunnels respect to the outer space. This work does special emphasis on the measure of the four Minkowski Functionals (see Michielsen and De Raedt, 2001), which allow us to obtain, in this case for each tunnel and each cavity measures related to their Volume, Surface Area, Mean Curvature and Connectivity. Results are shown as distributions of the four Minkowski Functionals for tunnels and cavities in each group of samples. | |
