Noise pollution is one of the most important sources of annoyance in urban environments of developed countries. Classical control techniques, or passive techniques, are based on interrupting and attenuating the propagation of acoustic waves using porous materials. These solutions are effective, but also much exploited, so it is difficult to improve their performance according to the current standards, more demanding and ecologic. It is then necessary to develop alternative materials for noise control. In this work we focus on the characterization of the acoustic performance of micro-perforated materials. These control devices constitute a new class of non-porous materials, as they are usually made of steel, plastic or transparent materials. An analytical model is presented to study its vibro-acoustic response and an experimental validation in laboratory conditions is carried out. The relevant conclusions for its application in the architectural acoustic area are extracted. | |
