It has been demonstrated the huge significance of the correct forecast in the transport logistics environment, for an adjusted planning in terms of means and resources, and for its optimisation. Up to now, the port planning process has been based mainly on empirical analytical or simulation models. This paper analyse if the artificial intelligence finds applicability in the port planning field. The study focuses on the scope of an eventual use of artificial neural networks in port planning. The methodology indicates the grounds of the artificial neural networks (ANN) application, as well as the different steps for their use in a container terminal planning process, based on the ANN tools provided by the MATLAB software. The first steps are the analysis of considered data, variables estimation and how to integrate the whole. Model results are then shown and validated. The main result is, however, the possibility to use the neural networks in estimating the number of TEU?s to be operated, based on physical terminal parameters and a correct means assignment. | |
