Descripción
Gamification is using gaming techniques or elements in contexts which are not related to games. For example business, education, social life, etc. The idea is to make non-game context funny and interesting for people, so they will be more engaged and motivated. Gamification is a new field in computer science. It has first showed up around 10 years ago but till 4 years ago no one actually took it serious. But recently many big companies like Samsung, Nike, Microsoft, etc. attracted to this concept and made Gamification to grow rapidly. Our work here is focused on Gamification in education. We designed a system to gamify a compiler course which is being offered in Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. According to the data gathered in past three years from the course, students have a serious issue with the practical part which is also the most complicated delivery of the course. Another issue is the percentage of enrolled students who are actively attending the classes. According to the data available, this percentage is lower than the amount that professors of the course are expecting it to be. There is also an issue with evaluation process. Because some exercises of the course have long and complicated answers, evaluation of course deliveries is so time consuming for professors. Therefore, it will be very useful to partially automatize the evaluation process which results to giving earlier feedback to the students. Our goal is to solve these issues using Gamification techniques, Gamification frameworks and following guidelines. We expect that by applying our design to the target course, students will be more interested in different concepts of the course; also they will be more engaged in learning process and will show a continuous progress in practical parts.
