The Autonomous Community of Castilla y León (ACCyL), located in the Northwest of the Iberian Peninsula, is the largest administrative land area of Spain (94.224 km2) and more than half of its surface is used for agriculture. Its orography, consisting of a very extensive peneplain, is surrounded by significant mountains, making ACCL an extremely complex climatic region. The main objective of this study is the development of ACCyL Climate Zoning (CZ) by a modification of the Integrated Zoning Terroir methodology proposed by Gómez- Miguel and Sotés (1992-2013), based on the integration of different climatic, geology, geomorphology and pedology elements. Climate zoning is framed in a larger project in which the spatial relationships of the various environmental parameters (climate, lithology, geography, geomorphology, topography and pedology) are studied, which may directly or indirectly affect different crops, and whose general purpose is the spatial planning of different applications and uses in ACCyL. The zoning results obtained have confirmed the appropriateness of the methodology to the objectives and describe 23 clearly differentiated climate zones: 8 of them are linked to mountain areas (higher altitude than 1000 meters) while the remaining 15 zones are related to the rest of the basin (lower altitude than 1000 meters) where the majority are agricultural areas. | |
