Micromachining is a process that produces pieces of small dimensions by different processes that allow progressively remove material to get the desired shape in the workpiece. Micromachining processes have been extensively studied but these present several challenges that must be overcome and that have slowed the expansion of these processes like the complexity of cutting tools and precision necessary for the processes. These challenges require the development of machine tools that meet the requirements for each process. Machines that uses single-point cutting tool as alternative process allows to use cutting tools whose complexity is significantly lower than other processes such as micro-milling. The machine tool that works with this process should be developed taking into account the specific conditions and requirements of stability, stiffness and precision. | |
