Descripción
The aim of this study was to estimate the in vivo body of growing rabbits from 25 to 77 days of age by the bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA). Two hundred twenty five animals grouped at 5 different ages (25, 35, 49, 63 and 77 days) were used. A four terminal body composition analyser (Model BIA-101, RJL Systems, Detroit, MI USA) was used to determine resistance and reactance values. The distance between internal electrodes, length and weight of the body were also measured. All the animals were slaughtered and processed for chemical analyses (dry matter, lipids, proteins, ash and energy). Body energy and fat content increased with the age, while protein, ash, and humidity decreased. A multiple linear regression analysis was done to determinate the equations, using weight, age, length of animals, and the impedance data as independent variables. When body humidity was expressed as percentage (%), the coefficient of determination (R2) and relative mean prediction error (RMPE, %) were 0.85 and 1.98 %, respectively. When the prediction of the body content of protein (% DM), fat (% DM), ash (% DM) and energy (kJ/100g DM) were done, R2 values were 0.79, 0.83, 0.71 and 0.86, and RMPE: 4.78, 12.2, 8.39 and 3.26%, respectively. It could be concluded that BIA it?s a non-invasive technique and good method to estimate in vivo body of growing rabbits from 25 to 77 days of age
