Descripción
Biological control is a key tool in Sustainable Agriculture, and natural enemies must be compatible with other pest control strategies such us pesticides. Pésticide treated nets, widely used in medical entomology are an interesting alternative to be tested in agricultural systems such as thó horticultural protected crops of southem Spain where some pests threaten the crops dué to the transmission of viruses. In this work we tested the compatibility of a long-lasting bifenthrin treated net (25 holes/inch), with an initial concentration of 3'6 {e *ittt orius laevigatus and Nesidiocoris tenuis, two important natural enemies in horticultural systems- In choice laboratorylests with Y tubes, both species did not distinguish between the control and the treated net, and mortality was negligible after crossing the treated one. when insects were exposed for 72h to the net placed in the ceiling of small glass cages (10 cm side), mortality ranged between 8l - 100%. However, in semi-field assays with biggei cages (60 cm tall; 25 cmside) and the net in one lateral, no differences could be scored fór mortaHtfor reproduction. Additionally, in 3-year field assays in small cucumber greenhouse tunnels ( I 0 x 8.5 mi with tñe treated net placed in the laterals up to a height of 2 m, the natural enemies behaved similarly than in the control.
