We investigate on the spontaneous formation of long-lived light channels from powerful Bessel beams in self-focusing media with multi-photon ionization. Many observed features can be understood from the existence of a wave attractor and its stability properties. The attractor is identified as the nonlinear Bessel beam that conserves the energy flowing from an energy reservoir, feeding the light channel. Different propagation regimes (steady, quasi-periodic, chaotic?) reflect the stability/instability properties of this attractor. | |
