of the employed cycle of labour. Because of its acceptable tritium-breeding and efficient heat transfer liquid metals such as Lithium (Li) and Lithium-lead (Pb-17Li) has been proposed for the reactor blanket []. However, the compatibility of liquid breeders with structural materials is one of the critical issues. It is known that the corrosion mechanism in liquid metals is mainly due to the dissolution of the steels elements in the fluids, especially at high temperatures. The maximum operation temperatures for F/M steels in Li and in Pb-17Li have been reported to be <600ºC and ~450ºC, respectively [1]. These operation temperatures can be notably increased by using W or SiC instead of steel. However, the materials selection is restricted because of their technological feasibility and their economical costs. In this context the use of coatings would allow having improved properties at low costs. | |
