Bi2FeCrO6 double-perovskite is a multiferroic semiconductor with ferromagnetic and ferroelectric properties that allows a variety of applications including optoelectronic and photovoltaic applications. An analysis focusing on the potential for solar cells is carried out starting from first-principles. The optoelectronic properties are characterized by two threshold spin gaps. Using the absorption coefficients from first-principles, the efficiencies are evaluated for several sunlight spectra, light concentrations and the usual radiative and ferroelectric photovoltaic mechanisms. The results indicate a huge potential as an absorber of the solar spectrum. | |
