Abstract
The communication presents the design, practical implementation and characterization of a GB-ROSAR (Ground-Based-Rotating Synthetic Aperture) radar system. It is a fixed radar with the ability of obtaining images by synthesizing the radiating aperture by a circular movement of the antenna. The aim of this study is to verify, through simulations and experimental results, the real benefits and possibilities of this type of systems in the setting of surveillance of particularly critical areas. The prototype uses frequency-modulated continuous-wave signals, has been developed with low cost COST devices and works in millimeter wave bands. The results obtained reveal the advantages and disadvantages of these new image radars and allow the analysis of their most interesting applications.
