This book surveys the major current aspects of high-pressure research. It covers both modern theoretical approaches as well as state-of-the-art experimental high-pressure techniques with an emphasis on static high pressures using diamond anvil cells. About one-third of the book is devoted to applications, i.e., the use of high pressure for the synthesis of new materials, understanding the Earth?s and other planetary interiors, and food processing and biotechnology. It reflects the profoundly interdisciplinary character of our research and our community and its close relationship with industrial applications. This text was written by 39 scientists who are internationally renowned experts on the topics they cover in this book. Many examples and results emanate directly from their own research interests, and are ideally suited to explaining basic concepts and methods in high-pressure research. | |
