| During the last decade, the policy of accident and victims reduction has been highly successful and placed Spain in a leading position within the European and the world as far as road safety is concerned. In the year 2013, Spain ranked fifth within the EU-28 counties in the death per million inhabitants indicator [1]. A similar indicator with exposure data, based in the distance travelled as measure of real exposure does not exist Europewide, given that the denominator (exposure) is generally an estimated value, and difficult to know if disaggregated into subpopulations of interest. . At present, one cannot relate the accident data with the exposure levels of thee subpopulations expressed, for example, in the veh-km travelled by each, since this value is neither available in the data bases nor easy to estimate. | |
