The contribution of a pumped-storage hydropower plant to reduce the power dispatch cost of an isolated power system is assessed by using a hydrothermal weekly unit commitment (UC) model and an hourly optimal dispatch model. The UC model considers different start-up costs and ramps of the thermal generating units (TGUs) as a function of the time the unit has remained offline since the previous shut down. The results are compared with those obtained considering constant start-up costs and ramps of the TGUs, as commonly done in commercial UC models. | |
