Abstract
Transparent TeO2-WO3-RxOy film glasses are fabricated by PLD. They show a moderate enrichment on the heaviest cations and a porosity degree ? 10%. ? Film glass network structure is built up of [TeO4] tbp units. Cations (Pb+2, La+3, Bi+3) with field intensities (fR) lower than that of Te4+(fTe) act as modifiers and transform [TeO4] tbp into [TeO3] tp, characterized by the presence of NBO. Instead, cations (Ti+4, Nb+5, Ta+5) with fR > fTe act as network formers and lead to Te-O-R mixed linkages, which maintain connectivity. In all cases NBO concentration is larger than for parent bulk glasses. ?Film glasses show good transparency (Eg in the 3.30-3.45 eV range) and large linear & non-linear refractive index (n? 2, |?(3)|? 10-12 esu @ 1.5 ?m); but there is not a clear dependence of n, Eg or /?(3)/ with either glass composition or NBO concentration, which suggests that both NBO and Ry+ concentration contribute to the optical response.
