Descripción
This paper aims to show the way translation strategies used to transfer specialized neologisms from English into Spanish can help us follow the track of the terminological dependency between these two languages. For this purpose, we have focused our study on a medical domain, and more specifically, on the way specialized notions regarding Alzheimer's Disease are translated from English into Spanish. Our study proves that there is a significant relationship between the strategies and the degree of terminological dependency for the resulting equivalences. This was revealed by the significant overlapping between both classifications. Results led us to a deeper analysis of the implications that the use of some translation strategies and no others can have on the degree of autonomy of the resulting terms. This would be interesting for the enhancement of the use of less dependent specialized units in codes traditionally depending on English to coin new terms.
