This paper analyzes the opportunities offered by wearable technology for occupational risk assessment and specifically the use of smartwatches for hand-arm vibration exposure assessment. A wide range of electronic devices know like "wearables" include MEMS sensors (Micro Electro Mechanical System) that provide inter-esting features to the devices. The potential of a smartwatch for evaluating hand-arm vibration was assessed in laboratory by comparing a smartwatch device with a reference vibrometer. The results suggest that this kind of devices could be able to be used in specific hand-arm vibration assessment tasks. It has been found some technical limitations but also it has been identified opportunities for improvement in the near future. | |
