Laser Induced Forward Transfer (LIFT) is a direct-write laser technique, suitable for transferring materials with a great range of viscosities (from Newtonian fluids to solid materials) in different sizes onto a number of substrates. LIFT process has some attractive features such as easy setup, high flexibility to print free form geometries and cost-effectiveness that have done feasible its industrial implementation. We discuss the mechanisms for the material transfer both in ns and ps regimes of irradiation of these high viscosity materials, using high speed imaging techniques and numerical simulations. | |
