We report here on nonlinear Bessel beams in the self-defocusing Kerr medium as solitary-like, diffraction-free beams with arbitrarily wide and at intensity profiles. These properties make these beams the natural background beams where the nested vortex solitons are seen to survive for propagation distances that are one order of magnitude larger than in the common Gaussian or super-Gaussian beam backgrounds, and where their interaction dynamics mimics the simple, and hence predictable dynamics of vortex solitons in the uniform background. | |
