This contribution revolves around the procedure that Liu and Vinokur proposed to derive a Roe-like linearization for flows out of thermo-chemical equilibrium. More specifically, we consider the multidimensional generalization by Degrez and van der Weide and its application to residual distribution schemes. The multidimensional linearization is described in detail, and the conditions under which it is well defined are investigated. We show that the multidimensional generalization can be ill-defined under certain conditions; an alternative to handle shocked hypersonic flow fields in thermo-chemical non-equilibrium is proposed. | |
