Lipids transported by allergenic proteins have been demonstrated to play a crucial role in the sensitization phase of allergy. Pru p 3, the major allergen from peach fruit, is an nsLTP (nonspecific lipid transport protein) that carries a ligand recently identified in our research group as a hydroxyl derivative of the alkaloid camptothecin bound to a phytosphingosine tail. For its participation into allergy sensitization events, the ligand activates immune responses through CD1d?mediated presentation. The CD1d receptor protein is a member of CD1 molecules that present lipids and glycolipids to the immune system. The family member CD1d is specifically recognized by the T?cell receptor (TCR) of invariant natural killer T?cells (iNKT). | |
