Nowadays, landraces are considered one of the most important sources for potentially favourable alleles to be used in breeding programs. In that sense, core landraces collections, where genetic diversity is maximized with minimum repetition, is a favoured approach to efficiently exploring novel variation. The Spanish durum wheat core collection formed by 94 landraces of three tetraploid subspecies contains a high genetic variability. In this study, we have analysed the LMW-GS composition of this collection by SDS-PAGE electrophoresis. We have identified several novel alleles at Glu-3 loci, some of them not previously catalogued or encoding new subunits. We have also established the chromosomal control of some new LMW-GS, previously deduced from its electrophoretic mobility. The relationship between some alleles at Glu-B3 and Gli-B1 loci was also analysed. | |
